Our Mission

The Mission of A Fighting Chance Finance is to give everyone the finance knowledge they need before their first paycheque.

Our founder, Doug Allan, is a career finance professional. Ever since graduating high school, Doug has been deeply integrated into the financial world, ranging from working in public company auditing to commercial real estate finance.

Doug realized his formal business and financial education gave him knowledge that advantaged his personal financial planning over others. This isn’t fair, and therefore he set out to level the playing field by passing on tips and tricks he picked up over his career.

If A Fighting Chance achieves its mission, people will have the tools they need to be financially successful before the age of 25 and thereby giving them the ability to harness the value of time for their financial future.

Doug Allan, CPA, CA

Doug Allan is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). Doug’s professional background is in accounting and finance, having graduated with a Bachelors’ of Commerce from McGill University with honours. After university, Doug began his articling at Ernst & Young LLP, and spent the next 9 years working in public practice accounting as a CPA.

Doug then moved into the world of commercial real estate development and investment as a Vice President, Finance. Doug has raised capital and managed investors on multiple large commercial projects in Canada and the United States.

Doug’s awards include scoring in the top 1% on his CPA exams and being named valedictorian for his home province of British Columbia. Doug was also named a recipient of the Early Achievement Award by the British Columbia Chartered Professional Accountants. 

Finally, Doug has experience serving as a director on both for-profit and not-for-profit boards.

Doug is married and has two wonderful children. He and his family live in beautiful North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
